About Weekly Reader
One of the great innovative forces in American educational publishing, Weekly Reader has been creating cutting-edge, curriculum-rich supplemental materials for more than 100 years. Our unique digital products and 11 award-winning classroom magazines give teachers tools that help them achieve their goals while inspiring students and igniting their love of learning. Every year, Weekly Reader materials reach more than 250,000 teachers and 8 million students from Pre-K to grade 12.
Weekly Reader magazines and digital content are built on a reading-comprehension framework and a scope and sequence that provide teachers with a systematic, sequential progression of vocabulary and concept complexity. Called "Concepts of Comprehension," this research-based curriculum, developed by the non-profit Urban Education Exchange, builds students' understanding of what they read and helps them to move successfully from one academic year to the next.
Weekly Reader Classroom Magazines
The Weekly Reader family of classroom magazines is the oldest in the United States, tracing its origins to 1902 and the publication of Current Events. Joined by Current Science in 1927 and, a year later, by the first Weekly Reader magazine, Weekly Reader's portfolio of classroom magazines today comprises 12 publications serving students from Pre-K to grade 12. Organized around grade levels for elementary school students and subject areas for secondary school students, our magazines provide topical information in an engaging format that builds both understanding and critical-thinking skills.
